A member of Israel’s far-right government has rejected the United States’ characterization of the killing of a Palestinian by Israeli settlers as a “terror attack.”
“I would not recommend considering the US definition as an accurate professional definition. Ultimately, they are not relying on intelligence but on media reports,” Agriculture Minister Avi Dichter stated on Tuesday, as reported by local media outlets.
“Media reports include a mix of accurate and inaccurate information, as well as biased content. What matters to us is the actual events that took place,” added Dichter, a former head of the Shin Bet internal security service, in an interview with Israel’s Army Radio.
Qusai Jamal Maatan, 19, was fatally shot in Burqa, east of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, on Friday, during an incursion by armed settlers that led to clashes with local residents.
