The Winter Star Palworld’s online presence has been fading gradually. Recently, CEO Takuro Mizobe of Pocketpair was questioned about the possibility of transitioning the project to a free-to-play game model.
Mizobe’s response was ambiguous. While acknowledging the potential benefits of making Palworld free, he highlighted technical challenges and the impact on existing players who have already purchased the game during its early access phase.
There is currently no definitive decision on this matter. While game services offer long-term revenue stability, our original vision for Palworld did not align with that model. Introducing service elements could pose significant challenges as our game differs from typical free-to-play setups.
Following its explosive early access launch, Palworld attracted 2.1 million concurrent players on Steam. However, this number has since decreased to 28 thousand after eight months, as reported by SteamDB. It’s important to also consider potential releases on consoles and Game Pass.
