After a day of campaigning, former President Donald Trump has returned to New York City as court proceedings resumed in his historic criminal trial.
The trial’s 10th day unfolded in the Manhattan Criminal Courthouse, where Trump faces 34 felony counts related to falsifying business records during the 2016 presidential race.
These records allegedly involve a hush money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels to secure her silence about an alleged affair with Trump, which he denies.
Prosecutors aim to demonstrate that Trump sought to suppress stories like Daniels’s to impact the 2016 election, which he ultimately won.
During his break from the trial, Trump campaigned in Wisconsin and Michigan, key battleground states for his reelection bid in November.
Despite being away from New York, Trump couldn’t escape thoughts of the trial, as he criticized the judge and proclaimed his innocence to supporters.
Trump’s tendency to comment on the trial was a focal point of Thursday’s proceedings, with Judge Juan Merchan questioning if he violated the gag order.
Here are five highlights from the day, including new witness testimony:

Before the midweek break, the prosecution secured a victory by getting Judge Merchan to fine Trump $9,000 for violating the gag order with his statements.
