Dragon’s Dogma II is poised to contend for game of the year, with the original RPG from Capcom receiving a lot of enthusiastic praise. Design director at Bethesda Game Studios, Emil Pagliarulo, has also weighed in, stating that the new game can hold its own alongside the legendary “Skyrim.”
Pagliarulo, known for his work on Oblivion and Skyrim, expressed that Dragon’s Dogma II provides a sense of fantasy adventure that he hasn’t experienced elsewhere, unlike other classic Western RPGs.
Listen, I’m not saying I appreciate Dragon’s Dogma II more than other folks. But after working on Oblivion and Skyrim and not being able to perceive these games like other people, DDII gives me a sense of fantasy adventure that I literally haven’t experienced anywhere else.
And yes, I love Baldur’s Gate III… but it’s different. This also applies to Solasta, Pillars of Eternity, Dragon Age, and nearly every other “classic” Western RPG. The feelings that people describe after playing Skyrim, I get from Dragon’s Dogma II.
The Bethesda employee also mentioned elements of Dragon’s Dogma II that he particularly liked:
- The voice acting of pawns and the direction of their lines.
- The gradual decrease in maximum health, forcing the player to rest at camp. This detail enhances the spirit of adventure, according to the developer.
- The visual style “straight from D&D 3.5″.
- The vocation (class) system that allows flexible customization of the character.
Dragon’s Dogma II is available on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series. Our verdict – “Praiseworthy.”
