Afghanistan was rocked by its deadliest earthquake in many years on Wednesday when a magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck the nation’s east, killing greater than 1,000 individuals and wounding many extra, in keeping with a regional official.

The humanitarian catastrophe comes at a tough time for the Taliban-ruled nation, presently within the throes of starvation and financial crises.
