Less than two months remain before the highly anticipated release of Dragon’s Dogma 2, the sequel to Capcom’s classic role-playing game. IGN continues to provide exciting updates about the game, including an official 10-minute gameplay preview that showcases the game’s combat mechanics and various in-game scenarios.
Following a 10-hour playthrough of Dragon’s Dogma 2, IGN delivered a glowing review, praising the game’s dynamic and unpredictable open world. Players can expect to encounter formidable creatures like griffins, adding an element of surprise and danger to their exploration and side quests.
A notable departure from the first game is the removal of quest boards and NPC markers, encouraging players to rely on pawns and NPCs for quest information. NPCs will actively approach players with side quests, while pawns will guide players to hidden treasures and quests based on their knowledge.
IGN notes that this approach creates a more organic sense of exploration compared to other popular titles, such as Elden Ring and the new Zelda, where map exploration is both thrilling and perilous.
Furthermore, Dragon’s Dogma 2 introduces a new system for unlocking advanced classes, eliminating the need for grinding. IGN particularly favored the Warrior class, which has been enhanced with a more diverse arsenal, making it a formidable choice for players who prefer brute force.
Game director Hideaki Itsuno shared insights about the Warrior class, highlighting its increased attack power and new skill, Intercept, which adds a strategic element to combat.
Exploration in Dragon’s Dogma 2 involves calculated risks, with various travel options offering unique advantages and challenges. The game’s immersive world and class dynamics left IGN thoroughly impressed, reaffirming Dragon’s Dogma’s status as a genre-defining title.
Dragon’s Dogma II is set to launch on March 22, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X.
