In a bold move, Yemen’s Houthi rebels have successfully targeted an oil tanker and taken down a US MQ-9 Reaper drone in response to Israel’s actions in Gaza.
According to the group’s military spokesperson, Yahya Saree, the “British oil ship Andromeda Star” was hit by naval missiles in the Red Sea, causing significant damage.
The US military has confirmed the attack, stating that three antiship ballistic missiles were launched into the Red Sea, damaging the MV Andromeda Star. Despite the damage, the vessel is still operational and continuing its journey.
Additionally, the Houthi forces managed to shoot down a US MQ-9 Reaper drone in Yemen’s airspace, marking the third drone takedown since the conflict began.
While the Yemeni group has not announced further attacks on ships, the US military revealed that another vessel, MV MAISHA, was also targeted but fortunately sustained no damage.
