After a marathon 72-hour debate, European Union legislators have reached a historic deal on its expansive AI Act safety development bill, which is considered the broadest-ranging and far-reaching of its kind to date, according to The Washington Post. The details of the deal are not immediately available.
“This legislation will serve as a standard and model for many other jurisdictions,” said Dragoș Tudorache, a Romanian lawmaker co-leading the AI Act negotiation, in an interview with The Washington Post. “This means that we have an extra duty of care when drafting it because it will influence many others.”
