Helldivers 2 Players, Mark Your Calendars For October 26

Although it may be many months away, Helldivers 2 players should mark October 26 in their calendars now. Historically, this day holds significance within the Helldivers community, and developer Arrowhead Game Studios is likely to have something in store to celebrate it.

October 26 marks the release of the science-fiction novel, Starship Troopers, which alongside its 1997 movie adaptation, forms a key inspiration for the world of Helldivers with its themes of fascism and propaganda during a seemingly never-ending war between mankind and an alien race. In-universe, October 26 also marks “Liberty Day”, a day on which the citizens of Super Earth “remember and celebrate what it means to be free.”

Despite celebrating the source material on which Helldivers was based, there are often perks to playing the Helldivers games on Liberty Day. Since 2018, Arrowhead Games Studios has tended to release free content updates on Liberty Day with no announcement in advance. These have consisted of new stratagems, difficulties, wallpapers, tougher enemies, and free weekends to recruit other gamers to join in the fight for Super Earth.

Even if there haven’t been major in-game updates, Arrowhead will often do something to mark the occasion, whether it’s a new blog post, social media competitions in which players are encouraged to share Helldivers-themed media, giveaways, live streams, or “Ask Me Anything” sessions. It’s likely that while these interactive events and social activities may still occur, Arrowhead will have more in store for the occasion this year.

Arrowhead has been regularly updating Helldivers 2 since its launch, balancing specific weapons and ensuring the battle against the Terminids and the Automatons stays dynamic and never gets repetitive or stale. With the incredible success of Helldivers 2‘s launch this year – which has maintained an extremely strong player base since – it is extremely likely that Arrowhead will do something big to mark the first Liberty Day within the new game.
