Helldivers 2: A Disappointing Sequel that Shattered High Expectations

Helldivers 2 has been a standout ‍live-service game, offering a complete package of fun gameplay, a vibrant community,⁢ and ⁢exciting ⁢updates. It has‍ quickly become one of the biggest successes ‌of 2024, competing with major IPs in the ‌gaming industry. Despite not being available on Xbox, Helldivers 2 has continued to gain momentum.

Released on PlayStation 5 and PC with crossplay⁤ support, Helldivers 2 requires a PlayStation Network account and ‍PS Plus subscription for online play on PS5, while only needing a general Steam account on PC. Recently, there ‍has been a change that has caused concern among players.

The official Helldivers 2 X account shared an update stating that linking accounts will‍ be mandatory⁣ for new ⁣players starting May 6, with a hard mandate in place by June 4. This requirement, initially listed on the game’s Steam page, has now been enforced for all players for “safety and security” reasons.

This sudden change has not been well-received by the community, with⁣ many feeling that the disclaimer on ⁢the Steam page was not sufficient warning. Some players may not have noticed the requirement ⁣and could face issues with gameplay. Additionally, the inconsistency⁣ with other messaging, ‍such ‌as an official PlayStation support page calling signing in to PSN on PC optional, has⁤ caused confusion.

Looking into the End-User License Agreement (EULA) for Helldivers 2, there is no mention⁢ of a ⁣PSN requirement, leading to further frustration among players. This change in requirements has sparked ‌debate within the community, with some drawing parallels to the satirical Terms of Agreement within the game itself.
