Hamas agrees to ceasefire proposal from Qatar and Egypt for Gaza

Hamas has ‌given the green ‍light to a ceasefire proposal for the ongoing ⁢Gaza⁤ conflict, mediated by Qatar and Egypt. However, Israel ⁢has expressed reservations about‍ the proposal, stating that it does not fully meet⁤ their demands.

In a statement ⁢on their official website, Hamas announced that their leader, Ismail‍ Haniyeh, has approved the ceasefire agreement proposed by Qatar and Egypt after discussions with their respective leaders. The approval comes despite Israel’s concerns.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office has indicated that‌ the proposed⁣ deal falls short of their requirements. Nevertheless, ⁤Israel has agreed ‌to‌ send a delegation to engage in further ‌negotiations with the mediators.

While specific ‍details ⁣of‍ the proposal have not been disclosed, Hamas member Khalil al-Hayya revealed that⁢ the plan includes a phased approach. This involves the withdrawal ‍of Israeli forces‌ from ⁤Gaza, the return of displaced⁤ Palestinians ‍to their homes, and the exchange of captives and prisoners.

Three‍ phases

According to al-Hayya, ⁢the ceasefire plan consists of three stages, each⁢ lasting 42 days. The initial phase focuses on negotiations through intermediaries for the exchange ⁣of captives and prisoners, alongside the partial withdrawal of Israeli troops and the facilitation of aid into Gaza.

The subsequent phase aims for a complete cessation of military ‍activities⁤ in Gaza, leading to the final stage which prioritizes the reconstruction efforts in post-war Gaza under ‌the supervision of Egypt, Qatar, ‌and other international partners.
