Sony has recently updated the Last Chance to Play section of its renowned PlayStation Plus service, announcing the removal of several PS5 and PS4 titles from the subscription service, including a variety of beloved Final Fantasy games. This move, while not uncommon for subscription services like Xbox Game Pass or PlayStation Plus, appears to be more extensive than usual, with a total of 25 titles set to be taken off the platform.
According to reports from Push Square, these titles are scheduled to be removed from the PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium subscriptions on May 21, 2024. Among the list are not only indie titles but also notable Final Fantasy games, which may come as a surprise to many fans given the strong association of the series with Sony’s consoles.
Titles like Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy IX, considered classics by both fans and critics, will no longer be available to PS Plus subscribers. While the version of Final Fantasy VII being removed is not the recent remake, the 2015 remaster still holds sentimental value for many players.
Although these titles will no longer be accessible through the subscription service, they will still be available for individual purchase on the PlayStation Store. While Sony has not yet revealed the replacements for the removed titles on PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium, fans are hopeful for substantial additions to make up for the loss of these beloved Final Fantasy games.
