PlayStation has officially confirmed the release of an enhanced edition of Until Dawn for PS5 and PC this year, following last week’s rumors.
Unveiled during the PlayStation State of Play, the new version of Until Dawn is set to launch on PC and PS5 this year. The upcoming ports will feature graphical and performance enhancements, with independent studio Ballistic Moon handling the task of refining the game for modern platforms.
Until Dawn, an adventure game developed by Supermassive Games and originally released on PS4 in 2015, played a pivotal role in establishing the studio as a creator of choice-based horror games. While Supermassive Games is now better known for The Dark Pictures Anthology, Until Dawn remains a significant part of their legacy.
In addition to the original release, Until Dawn led to the creation of two more games: the on-rails shooter Until Dawn: Rush of Blood in 2016, and a prequel set 60 years before the events of Until Dawn, The Inpatient, in 2017. Both games were designed exclusively for the PlayStation VR headset.
Although a direct sequel to Until Dawn was never developed, Supermassive Games released a spiritual successor titled The Quarry in 2022. Furthermore, a film adaptation is currently in production, with the director of “Shazam!” attached to the project.
