French law enforcement demands improved compensation and working conditions amidst Paris Olympics demonstrations

French police are staging a “Black Thursday” of work stoppages and demonstrations to demand ‌improved pay and conditions during the upcoming Olympic Games.

Several police unions, including Alliance ‌and Unsa⁣ Police, are calling ⁤for bonuses of up to €2,000⁣ (£1,716) and guarantees⁢ of‍ holiday leave ‍and childcare support for officers working during the Olympics.

The move follows concerns that all police officers in France will be ⁢mobilized during the two weeks of the Olympics and will not be ⁤allowed to take holiday.

Police ⁤officers are‌ expected to have only 10⁣ days’ ⁢holiday leave ⁢between 15⁣ June and 15 September, with many being relocated to Paris for the Games and seeking assurances on‌ housing and working hours.

Unions have called‌ for ‌“minimum activity” on Thursday, with police responding to calls and emergency calls,‍ but not going out⁤ on standard patrols.

The Alliance police union has stated that Thursday’s action is just ⁤the beginning, with the possibility of further action as negotiations continue.
