As part of Wednesday’s Developer_Direct presentation, Xbox unveiled new gameplay details regarding its upcoming racing simulation game Forza Motorsport, including how many cars to expect. As part of its announcement, developer Turn 10 Studios confirms Forza Motorsport will feature over 500 cars including over 100 new to the series. Turn 10 is persuaded that it’s made massive steps forward across all aspects of Forza Motorsport, which players will experience for themselves starting when the game launches in 2023.
Turn 10 Studios has had a rare opportunity with the development of its new Forza Motorsport title. Since the first game’s release in 2005, the franchise has never gone more than just over two years without a sequel’s release. The upcoming release of Forza Motorsport is a massive deviation from that practice. It’ll have been six years since Forza Motorsport 7’s release in 2017 by the time the new game arrives. That’s time Turn 10 has been able to use to make Forza Motorsport the best it can be, optimized with a focus on the Xbox Series X/S platform.
During Turn 10’s time as part of the Developer_Direct presentation, a major focus was placed on how big of a step forward Forza Motorsport is compared to past releases from the studio. The cars are just one major aspect of that. Over 500 cars will be available at launch, the most Forza Motorsport has ever featured, and over 100 of these cars are new to the Motorsport series. Over 800 customizations can be applied by players, all designed to help make Forza Motorsport “look real, sound real, and feel real.”
Different members of the Turn 10 development team each took the opportunity to detail focuses for Forza Motorsport’s improvement. Spotlight subjects include improvements to Forza Motorsport’s physics, not just in how cars accelerate, corner, and break, but how they slide, impact, and crumple. Visuals have been enhanced and support some degree of ray-traced lighting and reflections. Sound has been reworked as well, with a focus on realism and accuracy.
There’s much more to Forza Motorsport, of course. There’s a full “car-building-focused” single-player career mode, an all-new online racing mode, and much more to share yet. Also, keep in mind that Forza Motorsport’s PC and Xbox Series X/S exclusivity allows for 4K, 60FPS environments, as well. There’s no release date update yet, but fans expect more Forza Motorsport information later this year.
