Former Sailor’s Silence Prison Staff Sentenced for Prisoner Abuse: Justice Served with Up to 3.5 Years Behind Bars

The Preobrazhensky District Court in Moscow has‍ handed ‌down sentences ‌to ‍four former employees ⁣of the “Matrosskaya Tishina” pre-trial detention center for abuse of power involving the use of force. According to reports from “Mediazona” citing the court’s press⁢ secretary, operative Andrey Dorzhiev received a‍ 3-year, 6-month ⁢sentence in a general regime colony. Operatives Denis Petrovich and Roman Sarangov were sentenced ⁣to 3 years, 2 months each, along with detention ⁣center‌ inspector Alexander⁣ Sidorov.

The ‌case‍ against the “Matrosskaya Tishina” employees began in August 2023 following inspections by the Federal ⁣Penitentiary Service. The department found that Dorzhiev, ​Sidorov, ‌Petrovich, and Sarangov had “severely ⁤violated” the rights of detainees, impacting ⁢five individuals. According to‍ “Moskovsky Komsomolets”, the investigation revealed that the ⁢employees at⁢ the detention center would physically⁣ assault detainees “out ⁤of personal animosity.”
