The Floo Flames in Hogwarts Legacy are truly magnificent creations that allow players to fast travel, but PS4 players will never know just how annoying the busts of Ignatia Wildsmith at each of the Floo Flame locations can become. While it is understandable that being a bust on the wall would be inevitably lonely, her constant chatter at the game’s initial launch left many players frustrated and wanting to find a way to silence her. Thankfully, she’s already taken the hint.
Floo Flames allow players to fast travel between a number of locations across the big Hogwarts Legacy map. This system is incredibly convenient, providing a much better quality of life alternative for the game than requiring players to walk or fly everywhere. The original inventor of Floo powder was Ignatia Wildsmith, aka “the Floo Flame lady” and therefore her magical likeness is presented at every Floo Flame location. Her ability to talk, however, quickly exhausted its charm for many fans who have played the game on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
A March update for Hogwarts Legacy included many positive changes to the game, including lip-syncing, characters getting stuck on objects, and more. One other change that was made with this patch was not even written into the patch notes, however, and that was a significant reduction in the frequent questions and observations which came from the Floo Flame lady. The change was confirmed by Avalanche Software’s community manager in a tweet on March 9. Although this wasn’t Hogwarts Legacy’s biggest problem, players jumping into Hogwarts Legacy on the PS4 or Xbox One for the first time won’t ever know the annoyance that the Floo Flame lady could cause.
Some players had begun mods for Hogwarts Legacy to make Ignatia Wildsmith’s Floo Flame comments cease. The patch that ultimately solved this problem didn’t do away completely with the Floo Flame discourse, but the decrease in frequency was noticeable and appreciated. Previously, even simply passing near a Floo Flame location would trigger a comment from Ignatia. Although this feature may have been originally designed as a way to help players know that fast travel locations were nearby, it ultimately proved to be unnecessary and irritating in general gameplay.
Hogwarts Legacy has done an admirable job in not having many frustrations like Floo Flame lady, and PS4 players will never even encounter that particular vexation. This change to solve the repetitive babble problem came fairly quickly once the developers were made aware that it was becoming an issue. While no game can ever be perfect for every player, showing that they are wanting to address issues is a positive move from Avalanche Software. Hogwarts Legacy’s devs have always been open to working with fans and making changes, and this blessed silence for Xbox One and PS4 Hogwarts Legacy players is another example of that.
