Finally, The Sims 4 Is Getting Infants (& They're Adorable)

A new Behind The Sims Summit presentation has revealed more details about the upcoming The Sims 4 infant update, including a release date. The planned addition to the game will bring an entirely new life stage, and with it a slew of new activities. The baby life stage won’t be eliminated from the simulation title – likely because it could risk the corruption of save files that do contain babies – with the infant age instead taking place soon afterwards.

While it was known infants would be part of what to expect from The Sims 4 in 2023, it was unknown when players would receive them. A new Behind The Sims Summit presentation that premiered on The Sims’ YouTube (and Twitch) account revealed an official release date of March 14 for the infants update.

The update portion of the Behind The Sims Summit showcased several new infant-centric interactions and animations, including nursing, burping, bathing, high-chair feeding, playing peekaboo, and a Sim being bitten by a teething infant. In terms of Create A Sim, players will be able to customize every aspect of infants, with the update including shoes, hair, hats, accessories, glasses, teeth, and birthmarks, as well as new infant-specific traits. From-scratch animations have also been produced that will make Sims 4 babies less like furniture – Sims will now be able to do things like sit down while holding an infant and pass them to another Sim.

The addition of more interactive babies has been a long-requested feature for The Sims 4, and it seems the March update will be quite extensive. One of the most heartening things mentioned in the presentation was that the addition will include more interactions between infants and other life stages, as well as with pets. Currently, different ages like children and toddlers don’t have many interactions they can do together, so this will be a great boon to in-game sibling relationships.

The Sims 4, the critically acclaimed and beloved life simulation video game released almost six years ago, is finally getting infants – and they’re adorable.

The latest Expansion Pack, titled Discover University, was released on November 14th, 2019, and it allows players to experience a full collegiate life with Sims attending universities, dorming, socialising, and even shaping the legacies of their university with the new Build mode. As per the official trailer for Discover University, infants will soon be added as part of an upcoming free update.

In the trailer, there seems to be an array of different stages for infants. From the screenshots alone, it appears that babies have the options to learn, interact, and explore. EA Maxis, the game’s developer, has yet to reveal what talents, aspirations, and other skills they will add to the list of features in the game.

In the trailer, a newborn Sim was whipped around in the air, rocked in the cradle, and spoken to. In addition, there is also a “Baby” section in the expandable menu that provides options such as “Swaddle,” “Cuddle,” and “Change Diaper.” These features look like they will be essential in helping players nurture their newborns.

Infants have been absent from The Sims 4 since its original release in 2014. The much-awaited update is great news for the fans and loyal players of the game. With the release of the update, players will be able to completely immerse themselves in a life simulation for the first time.

In conclusion, the new expansion pack for The Sims 4 and the update bringing in infants have generated a wave of anticipation from players, and we can’t wait to see what other features and options are being added to the game.
