The beloved doge Kabosu, known as the iconic face of dogecoin and various memes, peacefully passed away in the early hours of Friday, as shared by his owner on a heartfelt blog post. Kabosu lived a remarkable life of over 17 years.
To honor Kabo-chan’s memory, a special farewell gathering will be held on Sunday, May 26, at Flower Kaori in Kozu-no Mori, Narita City, from 13:00 to 16:00, as detailed in the blog.
Kabosu, a charming Shiba Inu, captured the hearts of many in 2010 with a viral photo showcasing the dog’s adorable pose and humorous expression, sparking the creation of numerous internet memes. Notably, the famous cookie brand Oreo even featured this image in one of its advertising campaigns.
In 2013, the inception of the cryptocurrency Dogecoin saw Kabosu’s image immortalized as its emblem, adorning the company’s coins and merchandise, including t-shirts for the English football club Watford, a proud recipient of Dogecoin sponsorship.
In recent times, Kabosu battled illness and relied on a walker for mobility, demonstrating resilience and strength throughout.
