Epic Games recently unveiled the new Unreal Editor for Fortnite, which allows players to create their own unique experiences within the battle royale. The toolset was released shortly after the early access launch of the second iteration of its creator economy, which uses “engagement metrics” to determine how much of the net revenue from the Item Shop will be distributed and to whom. The program aims to pay creators based on how much their content is used. Epic’s guidelines state that players can show support for their favorite creators’ islands simply by playing them. However, there are terms and conditions, specifically around intellectual property. Players can only remake the first chapter’s map, but they may not monetize it. Additionally, they are not allowed to recreate anything that violates someone else’s intellectual property, even if they never intend to publish it to Fortnite.
