Exploring the Vast World of Dragon’s Dogma 2: A Comparison of Map Sizes and Dark Arisen Expansion

Dragon’s Dogma 2 has just been released, and it ‍introduces ⁢a vast, ‌open-world map teeming with content. The ⁣original ⁢Dragon’s Dogma, which came out in 2012,‌ was set on‍ the expansive island of Gransys, a ⁢sizable location in⁣ its own ⁤right. However, Dragon’s‌ Dogma 2 takes it a step further by featuring an even larger map, set in the two new regions of Vermund and Battahl, along with several other‌ new locations ⁤and ‌towns.

The original game⁢ took place ⁤in the eastern region of ‍the Liogran Peninsula,⁣ the primary setting for the Dragon’s⁤ Dogma universe. Despite feeling massive, it only represented a small⁢ part ⁢of the game world found in the lore. The ⁢second game follows a similar pattern, covering a substantial portion⁣ of ⁤the ‌Liogran Peninsula but still larger than both the original Dragon’s Dogma and its expansion,⁢ Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen.

According to an interview with DD2’s Director, Hideaki‌ Itsuno, Dragon’s Dogma 2’s‍ map is about four times the size of the original game.‌ However, the development ⁣team⁢ believes‍ it’s even larger than that, although it hasn’t been ‍officially measured. ‌Dragon’s Dogma 2 boasts one of the largest open-world‍ fantasy maps, ⁢offering ‍an experience that⁢ feels much more expansive than the ‍narrow corridors featured ⁢predominantly in ⁤the first game.

Estimating the size⁢ of the first Dragon’s Dogma‍ map is challenging,‍ but some anecdotal estimates online suggest it’s around 50%-60% of the size of The ⁤Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim’s map, which is a little over ‌14 square miles. Using this logic, DD2’s map could be anywhere from⁤ 28 to 33 square miles, though ⁣this is ⁤just a general estimate and may differ‌ once the total area of the game is measured. While not as large as other open-world games like Elden Ring, it’s still impressive, especially considering the depth of ‌content found in‌ the game.

Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, released in 2013, included ⁤a new region called Bitterblack Isle. This large underground area added to the total area of the game, but it’s generally smaller than the overall ⁣section of Gransys featured in the base game.
