NSW ICAC cautions local election candidates against using commission for political gain
The New South Wales Independent Commission Against Corruption has issued a warning to candidates in the upcoming local government elections against exploiting it for their campaigns.
Chief commissioner John Hatzistergos stated that weaponizing ICAC for political advantage, whether through referrals or other means, would be deemed inappropriate.
Allegations of corruption should not be used as a tool to attack political opponents, especially during an election campaign, regardless of their validity.
This type of behavior could tarnish the Commission’s reputation…
