Chris Philp advocates for a significant reduction in legal migration in the UK as Kemi Badenoch’s new team convenes for their inaugural meeting.
Tom Tugendhat and James Cleverly, two Conservative leadership contenders, are not part of the shadow cabinet. However, Cleverly publicly declined a frontbench position last week. The remaining candidates – Priti Patel, Mel Stride, Robert Jenrick, and Kemi Badenoch herself - all hold positions in the shadow cabinet.
Contrary to speculation, Tugendhat was not excluded from Badenoch’s team. He was offered a role but opted not to accept it.
The full shadow Cabinet lineup has been revealed with notable appointments including Chris Philp (Home), James Cartlidge (Defence), Kevin Hollinrake (Housing), Vicky Atkins (Environment), Andrew Griffith (Business), and Claire Coutinho (Net Zero).

Examining the list of absentees such as James Cleverly, Oliver Dowden, Jeremy Hunt, Steve Barclay, Tom Tugedhat, Suella Braverman gives the impression of a shallow rather than a shadow Cabinet. Nevertheless, there are still four years until the next general election allowing these Conservative members an opportunity to make an impact on voters as the party transitions to a new generation of frontbenchers.
