At least 288 people were killed and hundreds more injured in a train crash in India, which is a significant event even in a country with a long history of train-related deaths.
According to the National Crime Records Bureau of India, there were over 16,000 train-related deaths in 2021 alone, including cases where people were hit while walking on tracks or fell out of moving trains.
