Estimate Solar, Pollutant, and Pollen Production with Google’s Latest Sustainability APIs

Back⁤ in 2015, Google launched Project Sunroof, a clever Maps layer that combined location, sunlight, and navigation data to ⁣display ⁢the potential energy generated ‌by solar panels⁤ installed on a home’s‌ roof.‍ Whether it ⁢was⁣ your ⁣house or your neighbor’s, Google mapped it out for almost every house worldwide. This initiative not only⁣ helped advance Google’s environmental ‌sustainability⁤ efforts but also ‍showcased ‍the platform’s ⁣technical⁣ capabilities.

During the Google Cloud Next event⁢ on Tuesday, the company ⁢will officially introduce ⁣a set of new sustainability APIs that utilize⁤ its AI ambitions to⁤ provide developers ⁤with real-time information on solar potential, air‌ quality, ⁢and pollen levels. With these tools, “we can work towards⁣ our⁢ goal of ⁣collectively reducing 1 gigaton of‌ carbon equivalent emissions annually⁤ by 2030 for individuals, cities, and partners,” writes Yael Maguire, VP of⁤ Geo Sustainability at Google.
