Europe is looking to boost its AI startups by leveraging its growing fleet of supercomputers. The EU’s EuroHPC project, launched in 2018, aims to expand computing capacity with nearly €8bn ($8.7bn) investment in new supercomputers. This initiative has already increased Europe’s share of global supercomputing power from 15% to 22%. President Ursula von der Leyen has declared that this computing power will be made available to European AI startups for free. The use of supercomputers is no longer limited to scientific simulations, as they are now being utilized by AI startups. This move positions Europe as a key player in the AI race, challenging the dominance of America and China. For more information, visit www.economist.com
