Despite Tom Cruise’s recent box office successes, “Mission: Impossible – Deadly Revenge, Part One” surprisingly falls short of his other recent summer hits. And although the actor has had a few poorly received or mediocre releases, such as “Oblivion” or “The Mummy,” one film that many consider to be his underrated gem is the 2014 sci-fi military action film “Edge of Tomorrow.” The film was directed by “The Bourne Identity” director Doug Liman. Emily Blunt played the role of Rita, who will train Cruise’s character in a mechanical suit.
The film has achieved a kind of cult status and, overall, there is some foundation for a sequel if enough noise is made. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Emily Blunt will certainly be interested in the sequel. She recently appeared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, where she said there is a script for the sequel.
In “Edge of Tomorrow,” Cruise played an extremely troubled man who made multiple attempts to avoid action. The film’s plot included a “Groundhog Day” twist, where the main character relives the start of the day after being killed in battle. Blunt stated that Cruise must ”return to the side where you can be…for example, wasn’t he brilliant as a cowardly hero? Incredible.” Blunt enthusiastically declared that she is “totally ready” to be in the sequel, and added, “I’m not a hindrance, I promise.”
