A new Star Wars fan-made game called Star Wars: Dream Of The Rebellion has been revealed. This game is inspired by the Star Wars: Rogue Squadron series and will be available on an unexpected but perfect platform.
According to TimeExtension, Frogbull, the developer known for getting Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy 7 running on the Sega Saturn, has announced the unofficial Star Wars: Dream Of The Rebellion game on his Patreon. The game will be released on Sega’s Dreamcast console. Players will have the opportunity to pilot the iconic X-Wing fighter and take down waves of TIE fighters. The Sega Guys have already had a chance to play the demo and have noted that the game is filled with Easter eggs and features that will delight Star Wars enthusiasts.
Despite Sega’s impressive Star Wars arcade games in the late ’90s, such as Star Wars Trilogy: Arcade and Star Wars: Racer Arcade, none of these games made their way to the Dreamcast. Frogbull pointed out that the console only had three Star Wars titles released: Jedi Power Battles, Demolition, and Episode I: Racer. He believes that the Dreamcast missed the opportunity to allow players to control an X-Wing, especially considering the capabilities of the console at the time and the success of Star Wars: Rogue Squadron on other platforms.
Frogbull aims to address this by using 3D models from various Star Wars games to recreate iconic vehicles and environments in Star Wars: Dream Of The Rebellion. He has also utilized AI technology to recreate the voice of C-3PO and incorporated music and sounds from classic Star Wars games to enhance the game’s authenticity.
While it’s disappointing that the Sega Dreamcast never received an official Star Wars title that allowed players to pilot iconic ships, Star Wars: Dream Of The Rebellion is finally correcting this oversight over two decades after the console’s release. Frogbull has hinted at new features he plans to add to the game, such as a temperature gauge for the X-Wing’s weapons, so there is much to look forward to for those following his Patreon.
