Zach and Tarn Adams, the brothers behind Dwarf Fortress, have announced the game’s remarkable success. With over 800,000 purchases on Steam, Dwarf Fortress continues to thrive, despite the availability of a free version.
The Bay 12 Games team is optimistic about reaching one million in sales this year, especially with the upcoming release of the adventure mode in its beta version on April 17. This new mode will allow players to control a small squad, a departure from the usual management of an entire population of dwarves.
Additionally, the Adams brothers revealed that over one million Steam users have added Dwarf Fortress to their wishlist, indicating strong interest in the game.
It’s important to note that Dwarf Fortress has been available for free since 2002, with Tarn and Zach relying on voluntary donations for support. However, the family’s medical expenses prompted them to distribute the game through Steam as well.
