Dismissal of German Magazine Editor for Publishing Fictitious Michael Schumacher Interview

The editor of a German magazine that published an interview with retired Formula 1 driver Michael Schumacher, claiming it to be a “world sensation,” has been fired after it was revealed that the responses were written by artificial intelligence. The magazine, Die Aktuelle, has apologized to Schumacher’s family, who have fiercely guarded his privacy since he suffered a brain injury in a skiing accident almost a decade ago.

The front cover of the April 15 issue of the celebrity magazine promoted the interview with Schumacher, who is German, as his first since the accident: “das erste interview.” However, the cover also included the words “It sounds deceptively real,” hinting that the interview might not be genuine.

Inside the magazine, quotations from Schumacher about his family and health appeared alongside photos of him smiling and photos of his children. The article explained that all the quotations attributed to Schumacher were generated by an AI program.
