Introducing the latest release from Microsoft – Office 2024, the newest version of its office suite available without a subscription. This update comes in three editions: Office Home 2024 for consumers, Office Home & Business 2024 for consumers and small businesses, and Office LTSC 2024 for midsize and large businesses. It’s a significant step forward from the previous Office 2021 version.
Microsoft has long promoted its subscription-based Microsoft 365 over the perpetual version of Office. With Microsoft 365, users pay ongoing fees while perpetual license holders pay once and own it forever.
Initially, both versions had similar features when Office 2016 was launched in late 2015. However, they began to diverge as Microsoft introduced new features exclusively to Microsoft 365 subscribers. This trend continued with subsequent releases like Office 2019 and then again with Office 2021.
The pattern continues with the latest release of Office in 2024. While it includes some minor new features present in Microsoft’s subscription service, many others are left out. Like its predecessors, this version will not receive any future feature updates but will continue to get security patches.
