Actress Dakota Johnson has finally opened up about the backlash surrounding the “Spider-Man” spin-off, revealing that she is unlikely to tackle a similar project in the future.
“I’m not surprised by the outcome,” Johnson admitted in an interview with Bustle, addressing the impact of the “disappointing” reviews.
She expressed her concerns about the influence of committees on the filmmaking process, emphasizing the detrimental effect on artistic expression, even in smaller productions.
Reflecting on her career, Johnson suggested that superhero movies may not align with her aspirations.
“This movie was a unique experience for me. It’s not something I see myself doing again. I’ve realized that it’s not my niche. Sometimes in our industry, you sign up for one thing and end up with something entirely different. It’s an eye-opening experience. While it’s disheartening to be part of a project facing harsh criticism, I can see why it’s happening.”
The film “Madame Web,” featuring Johnson in the lead role alongside Sidney Sweeney, Isabela Merced, Celeste O’Connor, and Tahar Rahim, has been deemed a commercial failure. At present, the movie has earned $91 million against an $80 million budget and holds a 12% rating on the Rotten Tomatoes review aggregator.
