It has been revealed that in the updated trilogy of the classic Tomb Raider games by Crystal Dynamics, the developers have included a message upon entering the game, warning players about the presence of racial stereotypes and inappropriate content.
Many players see this as a clever way for the developers to avoid having to remove anything deemed “inappropriate” by modern Western standards, while also preventing backlash from overly sensitive social media users. Some speculate that the “offensive” content may refer to the exaggerated physical features of certain parts of Lara Croft’s body. On the other hand, IGN suggests that the message is directed at the Pacific island inhabitants in Tomb Raider 3, who are depicted with axes and blowguns and emit animalistic sounds when they die.
Despite this, it is reassuring that the developers have chosen not to censor anything from the beloved games and instead opted to address the issue with a simple warning message. The collection is set to be released today on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
