Could ‘War Games’ be the secret weapon of Homeworld 3?


If there was one thing that kept me coming back to Homeworld, it was skirmish mode. Setting up a quick (“quick”) battle against the⁣ CPU‌ would often‍ consume my entire weekend ⁤while ‍I was in college. Homeworld ⁤3 ⁤introduces a new mode⁤ in its second sequel, called War Games, which is a ​multiplayer co-op inspired by roguelike games.⁢ It allows one, two, or three players to ⁢face off against ⁢the enemy in a ⁢series of‍ randomized challenges, where progression⁢ is only possible if you can survive. I have been playing an early build⁤ of this mode for the past few‍ days, and I must​ say it is quite impressive, especially considering the fact that ‌I usually find the terms “roguelike” and “multiplayer co-op”​ to be unappealing.

Each campaign begins with a predetermined fleet. You are given the choice of one fleet early ⁢on, and as⁣ you ‌accumulate more XP, additional ‌options become available. You then have to ​complete a series of three missions, ⁢each set in a different environment, until you defeat the opponent’s carrier.
