“Constantine 2” and Tilda Swinton’s thoughts on a potential sequel with Keanu Reeves
John Constantine has been portrayed in various movies and TV shows, but the 2005 film starring Keanu Reeves remains the most iconic for many. The DC/Vertigo character has captivated audiences, and the idea of a sequel with Reeves has been a topic of discussion for years. With the current popularity of the American actor, a new film could be a huge success.
Tilda Swinton, who played the archangel Gabriel in “Constantine,” shared her thoughts on a potential sequel with Inverse:
“I don’t have much information about the sequel, but I’ve heard talks about it. I don’t think Gabriel will be making an appearance anytime soon. There have been rumors, have you heard them, that Keanu might play Gabriel, and that would be fantastic.”
Director Francis Lawrence expressed his desire to create a sequel in an interview with Slash Film years ago:
“Unfortunately, I don’t recall who owns the rights, but with the rise of shared universes, there are plans for Constantine within the Vertigo and DC universe. Maybe different versions of Constantine and more. Currently, we don’t have the freedom to use the character in TV or film, which is disappointing. We all want to make another Constantine, and Keanu Reeves is on board, but we’re being told there are other plans. We’ll have to wait and see what happens.”
The supernatural tale of “Constantine,” featuring the return from hell, could potentially continue to explore the antihero brought to life by Keanu Reeves on the big screen.
