Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, much like its predecessors, contains numerous references to other characters within Insomniac Games’ Marvel Universe. While some of these heroes are integrated into the main narrative of the game, others can be found through Easter eggs scattered throughout the open world.

Previously, Marvel had announced that games based on its intellectual properties would not be interconnected, with different spider-man-2.html” title=”Confirmed Superheroes in the Universe of Marvel's Spider-Man 2″>studios developing titles in their own separate continuities. However, this does not seem to be the case with Insomniac’s universe, as it takes advantage of the extensive roster of Marvel characters residing in New York to build its world. While some of these character references may be obvious to casual comic fans, there are plenty of others that are more obscure.

In Insomniac’s Marvel Universe, the original Spider-Man, Peter Parker, was the first character introduced to players. Unlike many Spider-Man adaptations that focus on Peter’s high school years, Insomniac chose to forgo the well-known origin story and instead presented a new narrative set eight years into his superhero journey. By the end of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Peter will have been Spider-Man for almost a decade.
