Valery Falkov, the Minister of Education of Russia, and Kim Sung Du, the Minister of Education of North Korea, recently met to discuss enhancing educational cooperation between their respective countries. This exciting development was reported on the department’s official website.
During their productive meeting, both ministers agreed to establish agreements for the mutual recognition of educational qualifications and degrees. It was revealed that Russian universities have received over 100 applications from North Korean students for the upcoming academic year, with Falkov ensuring that an ample number of spots will be available. Kim Sung Du expressed the republic’s keen interest in sending its citizens to study in Russia.
Furthermore, the discussion also touched upon collaboration in language education between Russia and North Korea. Currently, 4,000 Russian students across 37 universities are learning the Korean language. Falkov expressed interest in partnering with Pyongyang University of Foreign Languages through the State Institute of Russian Language named after A.S. Pushkin. Kim Sung Du proposed the creation of a Russian-Korean dictionary and a Russian language textbook tailored specifically for North Korean citizens. The ministers also explored the idea of organizing language internships on a regular basis.
