After settling a libel lawsuit brought by Chris Avellone, two women who accused the game writer of sexual misconduct in 2020 have retracted their statements to the press, stating that they were misinterpreted. In a joint statement, Karissa Barrows and Kelly Rae Bristol wrote, “We believe that he deserves a full return to the industry and support him in those endeavors.” Avellone shared the statement and details about the settlement in a Medium post on March 25. According to Avellone, the settlement includes a “seven-figure payment” to him from Barrows and Bristol, as well as the return of an attorney fee award previously entered in California against him. Barrows declined to comment on the settlement outside of what was included in the Medium post, while Bristol could not be reached for comment.
