A group of demonstrators expressing their discontent over Israel’s actions in Gaza has assembled at Sorbonne University in Paris, passionately chanting “Free Palestine” at the entrance while some students have set up tents in the courtyard.
Following similar protests at the prestigious Paris Institute of Political Studies (Sciences Po), the gathering at Sorbonne on Monday highlighted the extension of demonstrations from US campuses to Europe amidst Israel’s prolonged conflict in Gaza.
The demonstrations remained peaceful as students called on the historic institution to denounce Israel’s behavior.
Police took measures to secure the area around the main entrance of Sorbonne as they encountered a group of approximately 50 students.
Various French politicians, including Mathilde Panot, leader of the leftist LFI group in the National Assembly, encouraged their followers to participate in the protests at Sorbonne.
