Foreign ministers of NATO countries have gathered in Brussels for security talks while Russia continues its war against Ukraine and Israel maintains a fragile truce with Hamas.
The main focus of the two-day summit, which began on Tuesday, appears to be the Russia-Ukraine war. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg urged allies to continue supporting Ukraine despite funding delays in Washington and Europe.
“I am confident that the United States will continue to provide support because it is in the security interest of the country and aligns with our agreements,” Stoltenberg said. “I urge allies, who are also committed, to continue delivering support.”
The US Congress is holding up $61 billion in proposed aid to Ukraine, while a $50 billion package from the European Union is facing opposition from Hungary. These funding delays indicate some fatigue among certain NATO members after 21 months of war, according to Al Jazeera’s Step Vaessen reporting from Brussels.
