British Parliament Shows Support for Assisted Dying
The new bill allows individuals over 18 with a terminal diagnosis and less than six months to live to seek assisted dying. Approval from two doctors and a judge is required, and the fatal drugs must be self-administered.
“Order, order. Let’s stick to the time limit.” “I’ve been moved by the stories of families who have watched their loved ones suffer through starvation as a legal option. Doctors are forced to watch patients endure this agony without being able to help. How can we allow this but not offer a compassionate alternative?” “Here.” “My daughter Maria lived with severe disabilities her whole life, defying all odds. I worry for those like her who cannot speak for themselves or receive proper care and advocacy.” “Here.” “Thank you for your thoughtful words. David Davis.” “The votes are in: 330 in favor, 275 against. The motion passes. Unlock.” ” I respect those who opposed this bill, but it’s about choice – now everyone has that choice. This is truly emotional for me.”
