President Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus has recently signed a decree granting clemency to 30 individuals who were previously convicted. Reports from local media outlets such as BelTA and PUL N3 indicate that some of those pardoned are political prisoners.
The list of individuals granted clemency includes 14 women and 16 men, with some of them suffering from serious illnesses and others being elderly. Their identities have not been revealed.
According to a statement from Lukashenko’s press office, all those pardoned have acknowledged their wrongdoing, expressed genuine remorse for their actions, and committed to living law-abiding lives moving forward.
In a separate incident in late July, Lukashenko also granted clemency to Rico Krieger, a German citizen and employee of the German Red Cross who had been sentenced to death by a Minsk court for his alleged involvement in an explosion at a railway station. Krieger was the sole Belarusian prisoner released on August 1 as part of a broader exchange between Russia and Western countries.
