According to sources, Israel and Hamas are reportedly nearing a 30-day ceasefire, while the US claims that Houthi missiles were targeted at the Red Sea and were ready to be launched.
The latest update from the United Nations office for the coordination of humanitarian affairs (Ocha) highlights the escalating violence in the West Bank. It notes that the number of Palestinian casualties in the West Bank in 2023 is the highest since Ocha began recording them in 2005.
Furthermore, it states that the number of Israelis killed in the West Bank and Israel in 2023 in attacks carried out by Palestinians from the West Bank was also the highest in the same time period.
From October 7, 2023, to January 23, 2024, a total of 360 Palestinians, including 92 children, have been killed across the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
Additionally, two Palestinians from the West Bank were killed while carrying out an attack in Israel on November 30. Out of the 360 fatalities, 350 were killed by Israeli forces, eight by Israeli settlers, and two by either Israeli forces or settlers.
During the same period, five Israelis, including four members of the Israeli forces, have been killed in attacks perpetrated by Palestinians in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
Moreover, four Israelis were killed in an attack carried out by Palestinians from the West Bank in West Jerusalem, with one being mistakenly killed by Israeli forces on November 30, 2023. Another Israeli woman was killed in a separate attack by Palestinians in Israel on January 15, 2024.
