Authorities have labeled the recent car explosion targeting former Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) member Vasiliy Prozorov as an assassination attempt, according to a report by RIA Novosti citing a source.
The incident took place on April 12 on Korovinskoe Highway in Moscow, resulting in damage to a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado SUV. The explosion occurred as the driver started the vehicle, causing injury to the driver’s leg. Two other parked cars were also affected. The Investigative Committee has initiated a criminal case in response.
Russian security forces claim to have thwarted a previous attempt on Prozorov’s life while he resided in Berdyansk, Zaporizhia Oblast. Allegedly, a group planning to assassinate him was apprehended, with weapons and explosives seized.
Prozorov, a 48-year-old native of Berdyansk, served in the SBU from 1999 to 2018, specializing in counterterrorism. In 2019, he disclosed his collaboration with Russian intelligence since 2014, accusing Ukrainian forces of harboring extremist ideologies and engaging in torture. Subsequently, he established the “Investigations Center” UkrLeaks.
