Sony has made a significant change for Helldivers 2 by no longer requiring the linking of Steam and PSN accounts. However, the availability of the game for purchase has been reduced in certain countries, with Estonia, Lithuania, and Latvia being the latest to be affected. Over 170 countries where a PSN account cannot be created have already seen the game removed from sale.
Johan Pilestedt, the head of Arrowhead, expressed surprise at the situation, stating that most developers were unaware as they were on vacation when the news broke. The team is committed to making the game accessible worldwide.
“We have no idea what is happening. Most developers are on vacation, and we found out about what happened from the community. We want the game to be available worldwide.”
The decision to remove Helldivers 2 from sale in certain regions was made by Sony, as confirmed in a Steam support message. This move, along with a similar situation involving Ghost of Tsushima, has raised questions among users about Valve’s involvement. The game’s availability on Steam in specific regions is currently uncertain.
“Moreover, it seems that this game is currently unavailable on Steam in certain regions – as decided by the publisher. At the moment, we only have this information and cannot say when the title will be available again in these countries. You can contact the game’s publisher to learn more details about the situation or share your opinion with them.”
Pilestedt remains determined to lift regional restrictions on Helldivers 2 and is actively engaging with both Sony and Valve to address the issue. As for Ghost of Tsushima, sales have been halted in countries where a PlayStation Network account cannot be registered, with refunds issued to affected pre-order customers.
