Reports suggest that Apple has scaled back production of the Vision Pro due to lower demand for the $3,500 mixed reality headset, as indicated by Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo from TF International Securities.
Despite initial market expectations of 700,000 to 800,000 units sold, Apple has reduced shipments to a range of 400,000 to 500,000 units for the year, according to Kuo’s recent blog post.
Kuo mentioned that Apple made these adjustments in anticipation of an international launch for the device.
Following a decline in demand in the US, Kuo previously estimated that around 160,000 to 180,000 units were sold in preorders before the February launch. However, interest dwindled post-launch, leading Apple to take a cautious approach to demand outside the US.
Apple is now projecting a decrease in Vision Pro shipments for 2025, prompting a review of its product roadmap. Plans for a second Vision Pro in 2025 have been put on hold.
More details on this situation may be revealed when Apple releases its Q2 financial results next Thursday.
