The producer of “Constantine 2” is optimistic about the film’s production entering an active phase soon. It’s been almost two decades since Keanu Reeves portrayed the iconic role of the exorcist in the comic book adaptation “Constantine,” and now he’s gearing up to reprise the character in the sequel directed by Francis Lawrence. However, discussions about the sequel have been ongoing for years without much progress.
Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura provided insight into the situation, expressing hope in an interview with Comicbook.com that full-scale production will commence in the near future. He likened the project to “Madame Web” and emphasized the appeal of the character:
“I hope it all works out, because it’s a great character. He is great in the comics, and it was great to shoot the first film. He’s such an alternative character. What really attracted me to ‘Madame Web’ was the uniqueness of the character: the idea that she would go blind and become something else was genuinely interesting.”
The first film, released in 2005, was a commercial and critical success, grossing $230 million at the box office with a budget of $70-100 million.
