Another Approval Granted for Microsoft’s Acquisition of Activision Blizzard

The Japan Fair Trade Commission has given the green light to Microsoft‘s proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard King. This marks the fifth regulatory approval for Microsoft’s $69 billion deal.

Microsoft announced its intentions to add the Call of Duty maker to the Xbox family 14 months ago. Since then, the acquisition has been approved by Brazil, Serbia, and Chile, in that order, in late 2022. Saudi Arabia was the first country to approve the deal, doing so last August.

The JFTC has now joined the list of regulators who have no objections to the transaction. In its March 28 announcement, the agency determined that the consolidation would not significantly restrict competition in the affected industries. It concluded that owning Activision Blizzard would not give Xbox too much power.
