Remedy Entertainment is offering an analysis of the new gameplay in Alan Wake 2, which appears to modernize the prototype of the first game and includes references to Twin Peaks.
In Alan Wake 2, the streets of Bright Falls are filled with secrets waiting to be uncovered. FBI agent Sage Anderson has been assigned the task of locating writer Alan Wake. Following the game’s showcase at Gamescom, a new gameplay segment focuses on Anderson’s investigation and closely resembles Remedy’s original plans for the first installment of Alan Wake.
Unlike the previous game, Anderson explores Bright Falls in an open-world style. Notably, Alan Wake 2 features a pop-up window in the bottom left corner of the screen that indicates the player’s location in Bright Falls.
As early as 2005, the first Alan Wake introduced vehicles and an open-world version of Bright Falls, as documented in a prototype by Remedy Entertainment. However, the game’s direction shifted towards a linear, episodic approach, which ultimately resonated with fans and contributed to its success. Given the advancements in hardware since the release of Alan Wake, it is logical for Remedy Entertainment to potentially return to this concept for a highly ambitious sequel.
