A large group of Amazon drivers in New York City have recently united with the Teamsters union to advocate for improved pay and working conditions. The union reports that a significant number of drivers from three delivery service partners based in a Queens warehouse have signed authorization cards.
Over the past year, these drivers have been actively working towards securing fair compensation, consistent schedules, manageable workloads, and well-maintained trucks. Their collective efforts included a walkout last December as part of a nationwide demonstration against Amazon’s alleged mistreatment of workers and anti-union activities.
While officially joining the union may empower the drivers to negotiate for better terms with Amazon, there is no guarantee that the company will comply. Despite forming the Amazon Labor Union successfully two years ago, they are still without a formal contract. This highlights the ongoing struggle for workers’ rights within one of America’s largest corporations.
